At Lavender Hill we adore the use of Chinoiserie style. These beautiful, Asian-inspired patterns are a favourite among designers, and you’ll see these items included in home design magazines time and time again.
Chinoiserie is timeless and never goes out of style. The term comes from the French word for Chinese, but in reality it represents a European interpretation of Asian culture. The style started in the 17th century continues to flourish currently.
There are certain motifs often included such as pagodas, nature scenes and dragons, among others.
There are so many elegant ways to use it in home design. For example, it works beautifully as a wall-covering, particularly in a small space such as a powder room where you want to make a big impact.

Ornate, bamboo-inspired furniture such as headboards and dining chairs are reminiscent of the style, or you can use it for your upholstery on your cushions and soft furnishings.
