Black and Neutral Bedrooms

Black and Neutral Bedrooms

Black and neutral. These might not necessarily be the first two colour palettes that come to mind when you think of a French or Hamptons-inspired space, but the two go hand-in-hand when it comes to designing chic, elegant bedrooms.

Black is an incredibly grounding colour that adds a sense of timelessness that’s so appealing in both Hamptons and French design. It balances the softness of neutrals and the following bedroom designs are the perfect proof of this.

Crisp and Clean

The straight lines of this black cross leg bedside table give just the slightest hint of modernism in this bedroom, which is otherwise very classic thanks to the gray upholstered headboard, oak flooring, and white moldings.

Functional & Fabulous

This bedside table is functional in its' classic design and plentiful storage space, but it doesn’t overpower this otherwise neutral room. The use of feminine accessories including the pink roses and the clear lamp provide a nice balance, as does the softness of the bedding and the curtains.

Shades of Bedding

Overall the design of this neutral bedroom feels feminine and low-key, but the layered shades of gray on the bed and the modern black bedside table and bed ottoman lend to a feeling of a bit of masculinity, for a nice balance.

The clean lines of the bedside table also work well with the curves of the bed, mirrors hanging above the bed and also the bench at the end of the bed.

Function & Style

This bedside table feels antique and full of charm, making it a natural fit in this bedroom with a neutral wall color and a headboard featuring nail head design details.

French Appeal

This room feels very French thanks to the detailed moldings, and the chest-style bedside table in a washed, aged shade of black. The lines of the room and the use of dark, bold colours in the bedside table, bedhead, lamp shades, and frames are offset by the white bedding.

In this final room, which is from Lavender Hill, you see just how well the unexpected use of black nightstands and a black and white bench work in this otherwise very Hamptons-esque space.

The colour palette focuses on neutrals, but the use of the dark furnishings on either side and at the end of the bed ground the design and offer balance, with just the slightest hint of boldness.
